Kokomo Couple, 2 Family Members Killed in Seattle

Seattle, Wash (AP): Retired teachers from Kokomo, Ind., who moved to Seattle last month to witness the birth of their first grandchild have been killed by a suspected drunken driver along with the infant and his mother.

A family member says 66-year-old Dennis Shulte and 68-year-old Judith were walking with their 33-year-old daughter-in-law, Karina Schulte, and 10-day-old son when they were stuck Monday. Susan Morton says her sister and brother-in-law had planned to spend six months in Seattle to be near their son’s family.

Judith Schulte had taught English and was guidance counselor and her husband taught math at Howard County, Ind., schools.
Fifty-year-old Mark Mullan was ordered held Tuesday on $2.5 million bail. He’s being held on investigation of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. Prosecutors have until Thursday to formally charge him.
