ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (AP): A spokeswoman for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department says the sheriff of Kosciusko County was released from jail less than an hour after being taken into custody after being indicted on 10 counts, including bribery.
The spokeswoman says Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine was released Monday afternoon from jail on a surety bond. He had been taken into custody at 11:38 a.m.
Court documents filed Monday morning in Kosciusko County allege Rovenstine took $40,000 in exchange for granting special privileges to an inmate at the Kosciusko County jail in Warsaw and a jail visitor. The charges Rovenstine faces are all felonies and include three counts of bribery.
Rovenstine did not immediately respond to messages requesting comment.
