Labor Day Drivers Getting a Break

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Labor Day weekend motorists in Indiana are getting a break.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says it will suspend most highway construction and maintenance work over the weekend to optimize mobility and public safety on the state's roads. It says work will stop in most construction zones and restrictions will be removed where possible. Some closures and restrictions will remain.

INDOT also is reminding travelers to Indianapolis that that a portion of Interstates 65 and 70 through downtown Indianapolis will close for 59 days beginning early Tuesday. It says lane restrictions are expected to begin there Monday.

Throughout this weekend, officers from the Indiana State Police will work overtime to locate and arrest impaired drivers.
