Longer School Days Cause Problems for Pedestrians

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): As a result of the bad weather we've experienced so far this season, Fort Wayne Community Schools have added an hour to the end of the school day. Fort Wayne Police Spokesperson Mike Joyner tells WOWO News that the extended day is becoming a safety hazard for kids at crosswalks after school. He says drivers forget that crossing guards are out later than usual, and disregard signals to stop for school kids crossing the street. Police are asking motorists to anticipate crossing guards being out in school zones an hour later than they normally would be.
