FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man has been found guilty of battering his ex-girlfriend.

Carlos D. Staten, 32, faced six charges total, but was only found guilty on three. The jury found him guilty of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and two counts of domestic battery, according to the News-Sentinel.

He was acquitted of criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily injury and intimidation where the threat is to commit a forcible felony.

On April 10th, the victim testified Staten began to punch and kick her in the face while preventing her from defending herself. The defense attorney argued she has hit Staten in the past and may have forced him to defend himself in this instance.

Staten faces up to 6 years in prison for the battery charge and up to 2 and a half years for the domestic battery charge. He’ll be sentenced on November 4th. Since he was a habitual offender, he also faces another two to six years in jail.
