DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – A man was rescued in DeKalb County Wednesday after falling through an iced-over pond.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was called to the 2200 block of County Road 23 around 11:40 a.m. to reports that a man had fallen through the ice.

The man had been ice fishing when he had fallen in, and was found in the middle of the pond submerged in water up to his neck.

He told police he had been in the water for 10-15 minutes and was losing strength. He was holding himself up by a rope that was a tied to a tree.

An officer found a Jon boat onshore, got inside, and made his way out to the man to hold him above water until more officers arrived to the scene.

Another deputy then tied a rope to the boat and pulled them to shore with the help of several officers.

DeKalb EMS arrived to the scene and evaluated the man, though his condition was not disclosed.
