PERU, Ind. (AP): Officials in a northern Indiana county are struggling to find $1.7 million to cut from the 2015 budget to compensate for a sharp drop in projected tax revenue.
Miami County had submitted an $8.3 million 2015 budget to the state, but now state officials say the county can only expect $6.6 million in tax revenue next year.
Miami County Commissioner Josh Francis tells the Kokomo Tribune (http://bit.ly/1lNVCCq) that the projected revenue is the lowest he's seen in years.
The county council is considering laying off at least three workers, reducing other employees to part-time status and selling the Miami County Museum to the county's historical society for $1.
Francis says the county is also considering more staff cuts and increasing insurance premiums for county employees.
