Mississinewa Lake Under Algae Advisory

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): According to officials with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Mississinewa Lake is under an advisory for blue-green algae. The advisory is the lowest alert level.

This means that swimming and boating is still permitted, but visitors should avoid direct contact with the algae.

Always avoid drinking the water and take a shower after swimming. Officers with the DNR also recommend keeping pets out of the water or at minimum while the advisory is in effect.

Mississinewa is currently the only lake in the state under any form of algae alert. It will be tested bi-weekly until algae levels drop. The next test is June 30th.
