More Snow Expected For Friday

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) — Snow is expected to begin mid to late morning Friday and continue through the afternoon, potentially impacting the evening commute.

“I don’t think we’ll see as much snow as we did Sunday into Monday, but it’s still going to be impactful,” said Tara Hastings, a forecaster at WISH-TV. “The snow will fall during the evening commute, which could create some slick conditions. We’re forecasting about 1 to 3 inches.”

Areas south of Indianapolis, including Bloomington and farther south and east, could see 3 to 5 inches of snow.

“The wind won’t be as strong as it was with the last system, so we shouldn’t see as much blowing and drifting snow,” Hastings said. “The snow will create slick conditions Friday evening. Hopefully, with people knowing snow is coming, they might consider leaving a little earlier.”

Snow is expected to continue through Friday evening, tapering off around midnight.

“Our winter weather advisory begins at 4 a.m. Friday and lasts until 4 a.m. Saturday,” Hastings added. “The National Weather Service issues these based on snowfall amounts and potential impacts.”

After Friday’s snow clears out, light snow is possible Sunday night into early Monday, but it’s not expected to bring significant accumulation.

So far this season, Indianapolis has received 8.7 inches of snow, which is 5.5 inches more than average for this time of year.
