FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A lawsuit has been filed against Fort Wayne Community Schools, along with one of the district’s teachers, over the alleged spanking of a 6-year-old girl.

Steffanie Haney claims Jacalyn Butler, who teaches at Forest Park Elementary School, spanked her daughter in mid-November “in the presence of other students and staff members,” according to a report by the Journal Gazette.

She claims the girl was humiliated and suffered “severe pain” as well as “mental and emotional distress.”

Haney has since withdrawn her child from the school, and she’s seeking unspecified damages. An FWCS spokesperson declined comment.
