N. Indiana Counties Lifting Travel Restrictions

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): Northern Indiana counties are lifting the last of the travel restrictions after calmer winds have allowed crews to plow out roads covered by snow drifts.

St. Joseph County and South Bend officials say they'll lift their travel warnings at noon Tuesday, although city and county offices will remain closed for the day.

About a dozen counties in the area asked people on Monday to avoid all but emergency travel because of the hazardous conditions.

Temperatures plunged Tuesday to more than 10 below zero in northern Indiana, but winds slowed to less than 10 mph.

Steuben County officials say pay loaders are being used to remove the snow from some roads in the northeastern Indiana county.
