FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The disturbing “creepy clown” trend forced one local school district to lock its doors at four schools Monday.

Sam DiPrimio (dee-pree-me-oh), Director of Secondary Education for Northwest Allen County Schools, tells WOWO news the district received an “implied threat” via Instagram that some clowns would be showing up at Carroll Middle School.

That led district officials to place that school plus Eel River, Hickory Center and Huntertown Elementary Schools on lockout. That means nobody can get in without going through the office, plus elementary students were kept indoors for recess.

The middle school’s PE classes were held indoors as well. It seems like the threat wasn’t serious, but officials would rather be safe than sorry.

“We are not going to be held hostage by these kind of things,” DiPrimio said, “(but) we are going to put safety first and exercise appropriate judgement. For today, this made sense.”
