(WOWO): Be sure to give your favorite pet a belly rub, a new toy or some extra treats Monday because it’s National Pet Day.

The day was founded by animal welfare advocate Colleen Page in 2006 to celebrate the joy animal friends bring to our lives and to also to create awareness of all the animals waiting for their forever homes.
