New Haven man wanted for Ohio armed robbery arrested

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WOWO): An armed robbery case from Mercer County, Ohio was solved in New Haven Monday.

49-year-old John Smead is accused of robbing a Dollar General in Rockford, Ohio on Monday. He allegedly was armed with a gun and demanded cash from an employee, according to the Rockford Police Department.

Police in Rockford were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle and traced its registration to New Haven. An officer found the vehicle on New Haven Avenue just west of the State Route 930 junction, according to the New Haven Police Department.

A search warrant was obtained and the Allen County SWAT team arrested Smead, who will be extradited back to Ohio.

Rockford police are looking into a possible second suspect.
