INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A northern Indiana tea party group is joining the effort to place the state's gay marriage ban in the state constitution.
 
Kosciusko Silent No More President Monica Boyer announced her group will join a handful of other social conservative organizations pushing for the measure. Supporters of limiting marriage to being between one man and one woman say the state's existing law must be strengthened to fend off possible legal challenges.
 
Lawmakers are set to consider the constitutional amendment when they return for their 2014 session. If the measure passes the General Assembly it would then go before voters next November.
 
Opponents of the amendment have lined up a wide, bipartisan swath of high-profile supporters including Eli Lilly & Co., the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and Indiana University.
