Off-Duty Deputy Killed in Indianapolis Crash

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Police say an off-duty sheriff's deputy was killed when his motorcycle crashed after apparently hitting a pothole.

State police say Marion County Deputy Eric Stofer was riding on a road in a rural area in the far southeastern part of Indianapolis when the crash happened Sunday evening.

Police say the 35-year-old Stofer lost control of the motorcycle, which crashed and ended up on top of him. Stofer wasn't wearing a helmet. Police said investigators don't consider alcohol use or speeding factors in the crash.
