Officer in Lake County shoots, wounds suspect

GARY, Ind. (AP): Authorities say a police officer in northwestern Indiana has shot and wounded a person who tried to run him down with a vehicle.

Police in Gary say the city’s police department got a call about midnight Thursday about a suspicious vehicle and the officer responded. Police say the male suspect tried to run down the officer and the officer fired at him. Police say the suspect is listed in critical condition.

The officer involved is described as a 10-year veteran of the police department. The shooting is under investigation by the Lake County sheriff’s department.
