CINCINNATI (AP): Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY-‘-sik) will speak to the NAACP national convention that Donald Trump is bypassing.

Emmalee Kalmbach, a Kasich spokeswoman, confirmed Friday to The Associated Press that Kasich will speak in Cincinnati on Sunday, the day before the Republican National Convention begins across the state in Cleveland. Kasich had hoped to challenge Trump for the presidential nomination at the convention before the businessman’s delegate lead became insurmountable.

Kasich has declined to endorse Trump.

Kasich’s office says it had been trying for more than week to work out a time for him to address the NAACP.

NAACP leaders expressed frustration when Trump passed on their invitation, citing scheduling conflicts with the RNC underway next week.

Presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton speaks Monday to the nation’s oldest civil rights organization.
