Parents Spending More for School Supplies

NEW YORK (WOWO): Americans will spend more on their back-to-school shopping this year… and not necessarily because they want to.

It's because they have to. A study from Accenture shows 52 percent of parents will spend more than last year, and 37 percent expect to spend the same. The majority says, its because the requirements the schools have for materials and companies raising their prices.

Forty-one percent say they'll spend $500 or more. The study also considers peer pressure. One-in-five parents say they spend more to make sure their kids can keep up with their friends.
