BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): Bloomington has brought in more than $1 million in revenue from the first six months of parking meters installed downtown.

The meters were approved a year ago despite protests from business owners who feared their long hours would deter customers and hurt revenue.

Mayor Mark Kruzan says city officials are pleased with the implementation of the meters so far but cautions that it's too early to judge how well the meters are working.

The Herald-Times reports the most successful month for parking meter revenue was October, which brought in nearly $200,000.

Kruzan says the city will use the meter revenue in part to hire two seasonal workers to help keep downtown clean and for sidewalk and paving work.
