EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP): Two different funding approaches by two different governors are expected to give Indiana another section of an interstate connection between Indianapolis and Evansville by 2016.

Mitch Daniels paid up front for the first phases of the Interstate 69 extension. Gov. Mike Pence is getting ready to sign onto a public-private partnership that would spread the cost of the next section of road over 35 years.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports that Indiana is preparing to enter a long-term contract with a Dutch-led developer to build and maintain the section of I-69 that will span 21 miles from Bloomington to Martinsville by upgrading Indiana 37.

State officials say the deal is innovative. But critics say the deal will cost the state more than paying the costs up front.
