Pedestrian from Missouri struck and killed on I-65 in Indiana

RENSSELAER, Ind. (AP): Police say a Missouri man was struck and killed while walking along Interstate 65 in northwestern Indiana after his car apparently ran out of gas.

State police say troopers found 58-year-old Mark Tobiasz of St. Charles, Missouri, on I-65’s southbound shoulder soon after receiving a report about 5:30 a.m. Friday of a man walking on the highway near the city of Rensselaer.

Tobiasz was pronounced dead at the scene from severe trauma. Troopers found his car parked along the highway about a mile away.

Police say investigators were trying to find the vehicle that hit Tobiasz. They believe he was hit by a semitrailer based on vehicle parts found at the scene about 50 miles south of Gary.
