Police Arrest Minnesota Man in Girlfriend’s Death in Indiana

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say they've arrested a Minnesota man suspected of killing his girlfriend at a motel in northwest Indiana.
 
Police say the 33-year-old suspect was arrested in St. Paul early Sunday morning. Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda said his mother contacted police Saturday night after he called her from the motel in Hammond and asked her to buy him a bus ticket to return to Minnesota.
 
According to authorities, the suspect and 38-year-old Shannon Morrison were in northwest Indiana for a graduation party. The Lake County coroner's office said she was pronounced dead at the motel around 12:10 a.m. Sunday, and her death was ruled a homicide.
 
The Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/1GwdMT3 ) reports the suspect is being held in St. Paul until criminal charges are filed in Indiana.
