Police Chase Ends with Crash Into BMV Office

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (AP): A car being chased by police officers smashed into a Bureau of Motor Vehicles office in northeastern Indiana. The chase started about 11 p.m. Monday when Whitley County sheriff's deputies tried to stop a suspected stolen car. The chase continued into Columbia City, where the driver missed a turn and drove through BMV office's parking lot. The car went through the branch for about 40 feet before slamming into a wall next to an insurance office. The collision left office material strewn about, several computers damaged and electrical wires and water pipes exposed. Building owner Roger Diehm says he doesn't know how long repairs will take in the city about 20 miles west of Fort Wayne. Police say the driver suffered leg injuries and charges are pending.
