Police: Martinsville woman did drugs in jail parking lot…

FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) _ An Indiana woman has been arrested after police say she took drugs in the parking lot of Johnson County Jail.

Police arrested 32-year-old Melissa Copas of Martinsville early Thursday on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

A man told a sheriff's deputy he had seen a woman snorting while powder in a car in the jail parking lot. Officers who investigated allegedly found a mirror with a line of white powder on it and an amphetamine capsule.

Copas allegedly told deputies she was there to pick up someone at the jail.

Police say they found Copas' 7-year-old son on a blanket outside the car. The boy and car were released to the man Copas was supposed to pick up.

It wasn't clear whether Copas remained jailed.
