Proposal would add road through center of Jefferson Pointe

(WOWO News)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A new proposal would have vehicle access cutting straight through the Jefferson Pointe shopping center.

For now, the shopping center is an outdoor mall, with most of the shops only accessible by foot, and with benches spread out for shoppers to relax and take in some green spaces in between stores.

That might change with a proposal by RED Development, whom the News-Sentinel reports are asking the Fort Wayne Plan Commission for permission to build a road through the center of the property.

The developer says both tenants and visitors will appreciate a more “downtown” feel for the property, and stores will have the bonus of being more accessible.

The fountain at the center of the property, where the annual Christmas Tree lighting takes place, will most likely stay where it is.

ADA required handicap parking would be much appreciated. I do not shop there since there is no where to park adjacent to the various store entrances as the shopping center is currently set up and I would be that I am not alone in this opinion. Case in point is trying to go see a movie at the theatre by trying to get to the entrance in what is technically the rear of the theatre on crutches or a wheelchair if you are by yourself.
