Quality of Life Big Lure for New Business

West Baden, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana cities are finding that quality of life issues are becoming a huge factor in economic development.

And that is a big topic for local officials as they gather for the annual Indiana Conference of Mayors.

Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski says many people are choosing their communities based on the school systems, trails, bike and pedestrian plans and the parks.

Roswarski says his city recently landed the GE Jet Aviation Assembly plant and two factors were responsible for that—quality of life issues and local governments working together to create a stable business environment.

Another topic at the conference focused on advanced manufacturing jobs.

Roswarski says Indiana is doing well with new investments, but it‘s challenging to find people with those high tech skills.
