Rennselaer Woman Charged with Murder in Stepmother’s Death

RENNSELAER, Ind. (AP) – A 68-year-old northwestern Indiana woman has been formally charged with murder in the death of her 77-year-old stepmother.

Judy Moore was charged Wednesday with murder, aggravated battery and battery resulting in serious bodily injury in the slaying of Trula Alliss.

The women lived in the same apartment complex in Rennselaer, about 40 miles north of Lafayette. WLFI-TV (http://bit.ly/1Nki9RG ) reports Moore also was Alliss' primary caretaker.

Alliss was found dead in her home on Feb. 5. An autopsy found she died from blunt force injuries.

Police say DNA, suspicious behavior and other evidence connect Moore to the slaying.

Court documents show Moore's DNA was found under Alliss' fingernails.

Online court records indicate Moore is representing herself in court. She's being held without bond at the Jasper County Jail.
