FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man’s attempt to build a recreational rock climbing facility at his home was unanimously rejected by the Allen County Board of Zoning Appeals yesterday.

Derek Wetli was looking to build the facility at his home on West Hamilton Road, but he testified at the board’s Wednesday meeting that he had not met with neighbors who were opposed to the idea, nor could he get an endorsement from a national climbing organization that promotes the sport, according to the Journal Gazette.

He says he didn’t reach out to neighbors because he felt threatened by things that were said by his neighbors at the last meeting.

One board member questioned the idea to put such a facility in a residential area, though Wetli said he found putting it in an industrial area wasn’t feasible.
