INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana's state schools superintendent says she has reached a $3 million settlement with testing company CTB/McGraw-Hill after last year's widespread ISTEP disruptions.
Superintendent Glenda Ritz surprised State Board of Education members on Wednesday with the announcement that her agency had reached the settlement with CTB last October.
An overloading of CTB's testing servers last year caused thousands of students to be kicked off their online ISTEP tests in spring 2013. An independent reviewer determined however that the disruptions had little effect on overall performance.
Other states faced similar problems with CTB last year. Oklahoma fired the company last month following a second year of testing problems. Indiana extended CTB's contract for a year but will have an open bid for student testing beginning for the 2015-2016 school year.
