School Bus Safety Reminder

Stopping for school buses – always stop, unless you are on a
divided highway heading the opposite direction of the bus

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): School's about to start up again and that means we need to be reminded about school bus safety.

You've had the summer to forget those basic instructions. Here's a refresher,if you approach a school bus with red lights flashing and stop arm extended, just stop. Even on a multi-lane highway.

Officers with the Indiana State Police Department are asking you to take it a step further. If you are approaching a school bus or following a bus: ALWAYS BE PREPARED TO STOP.

Here's another persuasive reminder to stop. If you don't and you are caught, you could be ticketed and fined as much as $10,000 dollars.

Now that you understand that, there is one exception. If you are on a major highway or interstate with divided barrier or median, and the bus is going in the opposite direction, you don't have to stop.
