Verbatim

FORT WAYNE, Ind. The Allen County Solid Waste Management District is no longer utilizing Sears at Glenbrook Square as a light bulb recycling drop-off site.  Allen County residents should use the following District Partnership locations during their normal business hours:

Connolly's Do it Best – 515 East Dupont Road
Connolly's Do it Best – 10301 W SR 14
Connolly's Do it Best – 5221 South Calhoun Street (Southgate Plaza)
Connolly's Do it Best – 1642 Wells Street
Batteries Plus Bulbs – 105 West Washington Center Road
Umber’s Do it Best – 2814 Maplecrest Road (Georgetown North)
Grabill Hardware – 13534 Main Street, Grabill
Umber's Do it Best Hardware – 2413 Lower Huntington Rd, Waynedale

According to Allen County Solid Waste District Director Tony Burrus, Sears was the first residential bulb recycling partner location.  “We’re very appreciative of their years of service with our program,” says Burrus.  “Staffing changes at the store made the continuation of the service not practical for the site.  We extend our thanks to Sears for their commitment to our community and environment.”

Fluorescent light bulbs contain a pen tip amount of mercury, a nerve toxin that affects the way an individual functions.  Broken fluorescent bulbs can release mercury in landfills and contaminate the air we breathe, as well as poison our waterways and the foods we eat.
