Senate Debate Recap

The candidates for U.S. Senate have slugged it out in the first of two scheduled debates.  In their first face-to-face showdown, Republican Richard Mourdock and Democrat Joe Donnelly didn’t shy from repeating and elaborating on the charges they’ve been making in their ads, with Donnelly labeling Mourdock too partisan, and Mourdock calling Donnelly too liberal. Donnelly repeatedly invoked the name of Republican Senator Richard Lugar, whom Mourdock defeated in the GOP primary. The Second District Congressman says he’s worked across the aisle with Lugar and other Republicans, on issues including the GM and Chrysler restructuring. He says Mourdock’s lawsuit attempting to block the Chrysler deal would have single-handedly destroyed Indiana’s economy.
