INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indiana Senate panel is limiting the amount of money that would be released from a fund for road projects in the coming year.

The Senate Appropriations Committee voted Thursday to let the State Budget Agency determine whether $200 million should be released for major road expansions. The amount is half of what Gov. Mike Pence sought when this year's legislative session started.

Pence and House Republicans asked for the release of $400 million for road projects, one year after lawmakers approved socking the money away in a trust fund.

The road funding debate comes as lawmakers continue looking for ways to shore up sagging collections from the state's gas tax and after most of $3.8 billion from privatizing the Indiana Toll Road has been spent or accounted for.
