Shots Fired at South Bend Police Officer from Passing Car

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ A South Bend police officer working a routine investigation has reported being fired on by someone in a passing car.

Police Lt. Joe Galea tells the South Bend Tribune the officer was taking a vandalism report about 5:30 a.m. Sunday when he heard shots fired and saw a red Ford Focus speeding away. Galea says police found shell casings. No injuries were reported.

Galea says the South Bend officer was apparently targeted at random.
