INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Students at 13 Indiana college campuses will receive social media messages about Indiana's “lifeline'' law.

Republican state Sen. Jim Merritt of Indianapolis said Monday that students accessing the internet through their college or university will receive information about the law on Facebook, YouTube and Pandora. The messaging will occur through triangulation among cell towers, creating digital domes over campuses.

The law Merritt authored allows minors under the influence of alcohol to call to report a medical emergency or a crime without getting in trouble themselves. Backers of the law say too many underage drinkers are unaware of the law.

The affected campuses are Indiana University, Purdue, Notre Dame, Ball State, Indiana State, IUPUI, Southern Indiana, Evansville, DePauw, Wabash, Butler, Trine and Indiana Wesleyan.
