SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – The South Shore commuter rail in northern Indiana will bus passengers between South Bend and Michigan City this week so crews can work on overhead wires that power the trains.

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District says it will use buses Tuesday through Saturday as part of a plan to periodically bus passengers so the work can be done. District officials say the rail service will not bus passengers to or from Hudson Lake.

Train service between Michigan City and Chicago will run as scheduled.

District officials say the overhead wire upgrade will completely replace the old wire and fixed attachment system with a new lighter, auto-tensioned system. The old rigid technology is subject to failure causing lengthy service disruptions.
