SYRACUSE, Ind. (WOWO): An 11-year-old Syracuse boy has died after an off-road vehicle collision.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Monday along C.R. 35 south of U.S. 6 in Syracuse.

The victim, Kyle Hilty, was last seen operating an ATV around his family property at about 6 p.m, according to the DNR. After about 20 minutes, Hilty’s brother found him lying in a field.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Kyle struck a piece of farm equipment hidden by tall grass in a field. He was thrown from the ATV upon impact.

The DNR says Kyle was not wearing a helmet or any other safety equipment.

The investigation is ongoing by Indiana Conservation Officers with help from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and Syracuse Police.
