Teen killed in Steuben County crash

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A 16-year-old girl from Camden, MI has died after a one-vehicle crash that occurred Monday night in Steuben County.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened on Vanguilder Road north of County Road 660N at about 9:27pm. 16-year-old Megan-Sue Rose Johnson was southbound on Vanguilder Road at a high rate of speed when she lost control negotiating a curve on the roadway. Her vehicle left the road and hit a tree stump, which caused the vehicle to flip over.

Both she and a 16-year-old passenger, also from Camden, were wearing seatbelts and their airbags deployed. Johnson died at a nearby hospital from blunt force trauma while the passenger was treated for leg pain.

The investigation is still ongoing, however unsafe speed and the use of illegal drugs are both believed to be a factor in the crash.
