INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Prosecutors and attorneys for one of the suspects in a deadly Indianapolis house explosion have begun assessing whether they can find an impartial jury to hear the case.
Mark Leonard's lawyers, Marion County prosecutors and a judge spent Monday morning screening members of a “test jury” to determine if they can hold Leonard's trial in Indianapolis.
Leonard's lawyers are seeking to have the trial moved because of extensive media coverage.
Leonard, his ex-girlfriend Monserrate Shirley and his brother Bob Leonard face murder, arson and conspiracy to commit arson charges in the November 2012 blast that killed two of Shirley's neighbors and wrecked dozens of houses on the city's south side.
Prosecutors allege the trio set the blast in Shirley's home as part of a scheme to collect insurance money.
