Tornado Sirens Activated In Angola Monday Night

ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO): Countywide sirens could be heard as a precaution in Anogla Monday night.

A concerned resident called 911 after witnessing a rotation in Angola, while several reports to the Steuben County Communications indicated rotating clouds several miles south of Anogla. Police also witnessed what looked like a rotational cloud that briefly descended.

Around 6:30 p.m. the emergency sirens were activated, despite no watch or warning from the National Weather Service. Officials in Steuben County say it was for the safety of the community. By 6:50 p.m. radar indicated the heaviest storms have passed, and reports of down trees was the extend of the most significant damage.
