UPDATE: Plane That Crashed Near Smith Field Had Expired Registration

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  A small plane crashed while trying to land at Smith Field Airport early Saturday morning.

Two people were on board the plane, which has an expired registration to Jeffrey Mills of Butler. One of the occupants escaped the crash with injuries, but the second person has not yet been found. No word yet on if Mills was involved in any way.

Around 3:45 a.m., a Cessna 150 plane was flying north and approaching Smith Field.  As the plane began to descend, it clipped the upper portions of large trees, struck a power line and the roof of a nearby house.  It eventually landed upside down in the backyard of a home on 1414 Ludwig Park Drive.

The residents of the house were not hurt.  Indiana State Police Sergeant Tom Merkling, along with the FAA, said there's no further information at this time.  Police do say they have the identity of the person believed to be missing and are continuing to locate that individual.
