UPDATE: Power Outages Continue, Could Last Until Tuesday

Trees are down throughout the Fort Wayne area and may cover parts of local roads.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  With numerous wires down in various parts of the city, crews have been navigating streets blocked by trees and water to safely de-energize those wires. I&M crews continue their work and will be joined by more than 200 crew members from out of state.

At one point, around 32,000 people were in the dark, with around 30,500 of those in Fort Wayne area.  And with high waters reported around the area, flooding remains a concern with the latest batch of storms that swept through the area.

Most of the outages will be restored as they continue to work over the next day, but for some it will take even longer.  I&M expects to restore power to 95% of customers by 11:59 p.m. Monday night.  They said in a press release, “I&M and our employees understand the frustration customers experience when they lose electric service, especially during times of severe wind and weather.  Line crews will continue to work until power is fully restored.”

The Allen County Highway Department is reporting water over many of the county's highways, particularly in the southern and eastern sections of the county.  They expect the poor conditions through the weekend.  Though some of the roads may be passable, motorists should use extreme caution and avoid driving through flooded roadways — even if there are no warning signs visible.

City of Fort Wayne crews have been working since this morning to respond to weather-related damages throughout the community.  Mayor Tom Henry toured the City and said, “I want to thank City employees and residents for working together as we deal with weather challenges in our community,” said Mayor Henry. “Residents should continue to use caution around high water and downed trees. City crews will be continuing clean-up efforts and we’re constantly monitoring weather conditions.”
