EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — The University of Southern Indiana's Faculty Senate plans to vote next month on whether to oppose Indiana's proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.

The Evansville Courier and Press reports divisions surfaced Friday over whether the Evansville school's Faculty Senate should go on the record opposing the constitutional amendment. But the 16-member body indicated it would vote December 6th on whether to draft a statement opposing the proposed amendment.

USI's Faculty Senate is among the few at Indiana's public universities to remain silent about the proposed constitutional amendment that would bar same-sex marriage. Faculty at Indiana University, Purdue, Ball State, Butler and DePauw all have gone on record opposing the amendment.

If state lawmakers approve the measure it would go before Indiana voters on a referendum.
