Vera Cruz bridge, a Wells County landmark, up for grabs as county aims for riverfront revitalization

VERA CRUZ, Ind. (WOWO) – The Indiana Department of Transportation is selling the historic Vera Cruz bridge, a Wells County landmark dating back to 1887.

Located near Church Road and State Road 116 along the Wabash River, it’s one of the county’s oldest structures and could be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

According to our partners in news at 21 Alive, Wells County is fundraising for a kayaking and paddlesport launching pad in the area. This project aims to transform the riverside into a vibrant hub for water activities.

To support this vision, you can donate to the project here. The fundraising deadline is January 12, offering a brief window to shape the county’s future. As Vera Cruz Bridge awaits a new owner, Wells County looks toward a dynamic era of growth and recreation.
