FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne community is trying to get a life saving device they don’t presently have.

There are no tornado sirens in Waynedale, and the Business Chamber of Waynedale wants to change that.

The chamber says the closest warning system for Waynedale residents is 2 miles away on Winchester Road. The problem with that is tornado sirens can only be heard up to 3 quarters of a mile away.

The city has started a petition to get tornado sirens installed. It hopes to present the petition and a plan of action to the city of Fort Wayne by September.
