Weather Outlook August-October

The long-range seasonal outlook has just been issued from the International Research Institute (IRI). This is perhaps the most widely-used model for long-range forecasting.

This outlook covers the late summer and fall (August-September-October) time frame.

Despite the recent hot spell over parts of the corn belt, output from the IRI model suggests that temperatures will likely be held in check the rest of the summer averaging close to or even a tad below normal.

The extended trend of above-normal precipitation could also persist late in the season. The forecast for the Indiana-Ohio region suggests normal to slightly above normal temperatures and slightly above normal precipitation.

Also, models indicate that the extreme rainfall over the eastern corn belt should gradually moderate and hopefully shift further to the west.
