West Nile Virus Found in Harlan

HARLAN, Ind. (WOWO): West Nile Virus has been detected in Harlan.

An Allen County Health Department spokeswoman confirmed to WOWO that a sample tested positive in a neighborhood in southwest Harlan near Black Creek. The sample was found at the 11300 block of Morning Glory Drive.

Now health department crews are surveying a half-mile radius in search of a possible breeding site. The spokeswoman says one positive test doesn't necessarily mean a site is nearby. 

The health department is advising you to wear insect repellent containing DEET to protect yourself from the virus. Kosciusko, Wabash, and Wells Counties have also had recent positive tests of West Nile.
