Woodburn Readies for Groundhog Day Festivities

WOODBURN, Ind. (WOWO): Sunday is Ground Hog Day and a fun way to celebrate the eventual coming of spring. Like the well-known celebration in Punxsutawney, Penn., – Woodburn has it's own budding tradition.

Beth Wood with Indiana Wild, who handles the groundhog Woodburn Wild Charles Winchester, says there is a nice sunny mild forecast ahead. But, that probably means “Chuck” will see his shadow – and with we'll have six more weeks of winter.

All eyes are on the groundhog for the 8 a.m. Sunday prediction ceremony in front of City Hall. But there's a full day evening of activities leading up to it Saturday night in Woodburn.

Saturday
5 p.m. – 7 p.m. – Chili Cook-off (free will donation) – Woodburn Community Center
7 p.m. -10 p.m. –  Square Dance ($10 advance/$15 door) – Community Center

Sunday
8 a.m. – Woodburn Wild Charles Winchester Prediction – City Hall
8 a.m. – Noon – Pancake Breakfast ($5/$7)
