49th Anniversary of Palm Sunday Tornado

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Today is the 49th anniversary of the famous Palm Sunday tornado outbreak.

In 1965, a total of 47 tornadoes touched down across the Midwest. Elkhart County was one of the hardest hit areas where 300 homes were damaged and 190 mobile homes destroyed. 60 people died.

The Elkhart County Historical Museum will hold an event on Sunday to commemorate the anniversary. The museum has held an annual event every Palm Sunday to commemorate that day. This year the museum wants to collect what people remember to present next year for the 50th anniversary.
